May not be as thrilling as a race car, but it’s definitely the closest you can get! The speedway may be busier some times of the year than others. Special events include Memorial Day weekend, which attracts over 400,000 fans, the NASCAR Allstate 400 in late July, and in late August the Red Bull Indianapolis cup (a motorcycle race). If you don’t make it to a special event check out their museum where you can see hundreds of old and new race cars.

Visit one of the nations Top 10 Zoo’s (according to TripAdvisor). The Indianapolis Zoo has over 350 different animal species on its 70 acre property. Here you can see the world’s largest shark touch tank and participate in a dolphin adventure where you swim with the dolphins. This fantastic zoo is large enough to provide hours of entertainment for people of all ages.

White River State ParkNearby the Zoo is Indianapolis’s White River State Park. This park is known for being America’s only cultural urban state park. While visiting the park you can rent a variety of bikes, boats, and even Segways. If none of these strike your fancy the park also offers many excellent walking paths.

Monument CircleLike history? Check out Monument Circle in the center of town. This monument is dedicated to veterans of the American Civil War and towers 284 feet into the sky. You can ride an elevator up to the top and enjoy the spectacular Indianapolis skyline. Underneath the building lies the Eli Lilly Civil War Museum where you can see the intricate role Indiana played in the Civil War. Visit this historical site not only to learn about Indiana history but also to see a breathtaking view of the city.
